Emotionally Focused Therapy is a model that helps individuals connect, build empathy, and improve relationships with others. This class will provide an overview of Emotionally Focused Therapy, including its core concepts, strategies, interventions, and appropriate populations. We will explore how the approach is used in practice and how it can be integrated with art therapy through discussion, lecture, and experiential activities.
Learning Objectives
Describe the core concepts and theoretical foundations of Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Identify and practice common strategies and interventions used within the Emotionally Focused Therapy approach.
Describe at least three appropriate art interventions to integrate with Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Conceptualize the EFT loop and tango with future clients.

About the Presenter
Sarah Kwawu is a Licensed and Board-Certified Creative Arts Therapist and Licensed Family Therapist associate with over fifteen years of experience working both locally and internationally. She began her career in New York City and later expanded her clinical reach, living and working in both West and North Africa. Her work has spanned the United States Peace Corps, school-based services, private practice, and community settings. Sarah is deeply committed to helping clients strengthen their connection to themselves and others, using their own creativity as their guide. Sarah currently resides in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she offers individual and group therapy through a private practice and works as an adjunct lecturer at Cedar Crest College teaching Family Therapy.
