Ryann Catapano is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and Registered Dance/Movement Therapist with 15 years of experience in inpatient psychiatry, substance abuse treatment, and outpatient adolescent care, who specializes in working with adults 25 years and older through life transitions, including changes in living status, career, and familial dynamics. She is inspired by the human condition and how we connect to self, others, and space. Body awareness and movement practices help strengthen our livelihood and desire for life, teaching us resiliency and presence. Ryann believes that the body holds what your mind experiences (and vice versa, really) and incorporates consistent mind-body practices to promote balance in your life. Is physical and emotional movement in life important? Yes. Is stillness important? Also yes. Together, you will explore it all.
Her therapeutic approach integrates Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Ryann prides herself on her ability to be direct but gentle. Accountability is crucial to growth in therapy, and she can always be relied on to help keep you honest with yourself. She believes moments of laughter are essential in therapy work to create a deep sense of feeling and release. There is nothing that brings her joy more than watching her clients' self-worth and self-esteem soar and to achieve the things they doubted they could.
With a BA in Psychology, BS in Therapeutic Recreation (former CTRS), and dual Master's degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Creative Arts Therapy with a specialization in Dance/Movement Therapy, plus training in ACT and DBT, Ryann brings robust clinical expertise and lived experience to her work. When she was 11 years old, her uncle asked, "What do you want to be when you get older?" and her response was, "a social worker." At that age, she knew she wanted to help people. What she didn't know was that she would one day be able to join her love for dance, music, movement, and the art of helping others as one. As she got older and immersed herself in dancing, teaching, choreography projects, work-study programs, and volunteer work, she found purpose but also realized she was masking life by being "busy" and wasn't making space for stillness and emotional awareness. As she has evolved, she has learned the importance of finding balance in life while keeping inspirations and motivations alive.
Outside the therapy room, Ryann has newfound loves in pilates, sound bowl therapy, and axe throwing. Any live show experience (comedy, dancing, singing) without fail gives her life...every...single...time! Being out in nature, specifically near a lake or the ocean, helps her feel peace and establish balance.
Direct but Gentle Accountability
Ryann is known for her ability to be direct while maintaining gentleness. She helps clients acknowledge their thoughts, validate their attached emotions, and evaluate their physical responses in an effort to inspire more enlightening thought processes and productive behaviors. The thoughts we feed ourselves have the power to dictate how our body behaves, and she encourages moving past dead-end language that our body holds and prevents us from moving forward.Mind-Body Integration Specialist
With a specialization in Dance/Movement Therapy and training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and MBSR, Ryann incorporates body awareness and movement practices to help strengthen livelihood and desire for life. She uses journaling, mindful meditation, and authentic movement as creative methods within this work, teaching resiliency and presence through the body's wisdom.Life Transitions and Family Dynamics
Ryann works with clients navigating endless dimensions of family and life transitions, whether working on establishing a future for yourself, in a relationship, thinking about your future together, newly married and navigating a new chapter, planning or expecting a child, or separated/divorced and processing this new chapter. She emphasizes the importance of self-esteem, self-preservation, and overall self-care through these transitions.
"I am so inspired by the human condition and how we connect to self, others, and space. There is nothing that brings me joy more than watching my clients' self-worth and self-esteem soar and to achieve the things they doubted they could."
