Professional Philosophy

Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or weighed down by your past or symptoms? You’re not alone, and you don’t have to navigate it by yourself. As a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) and Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) with over a decade of experience, I specialize in helping individuals process and heal from trauma, anxiety, depression, and substance use challenges.

I’ve supported children, adolescents, and adults across diverse settings—including psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitation centers, day programs, school environments, and outpatient mental health clinics. I bring a flexible, client-centered approach to therapy, integrating traditional talk therapy with the creative arts and evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, ACT, and mindfulness.

My work is rooted in the belief that creativity is a powerful, transformative tool. It can unlock emotional expression, foster self-discovery, and deepen awareness of our internal world. I specialize in helping clients gently face and accept difficult emotions and thoughts—those prickly, uncomfortable parts of ourselves that often feel impossible to hold. Just like we can hold a cactus carefully, we can learn to hold our discomfort with compassion and without judgment.

Whether you're working through trauma, building self-esteem, or navigating a major life change, I’m here to walk alongside you—supporting your journey toward healing, growth, and renewed self-connection.

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”

Personal Background

Growing up on Long Island, I often turned to the beach, nature, and drawing as sources of comfort during difficult times. These experiences sparked a deep appreciation for the healing power of creativity, leading me to initially pursue a career in art education. I was passionate about working with children and hoped to serve as a positive role model, helping them discover the same sense of peace and self-expression that art provided me. I didn’t know what art therapy was at this time.

I was introduced to the field of art therapy and during my first internship at a mental health day program, is where I realized I was in the right place. There, I met a client who shared how art therapy had not only supported her mental health but also empowered her to build a meaningful career in the arts. Her story was a turning point—my “aha” moment. I realized then that I wanted to be part of someone’s healing journey in that same way.

That moment inspired me to shift my path and pursue a career in creative arts therapy, combining my love for art with my commitment to supporting others through their emotional and psychological challenges.

AREAS OF FOCUS

All of us here at START address the mental health areas of stress, trauma, and anxiety in our practice. We apply these three topics to unique, specific challenges that our clients are going through. I also offer specialized areas in the following areas:

Mood and Emotion Regulation

I specialize in supporting individuals who are navigating overwhelming emotions such as anxiety, depression, anger, and trauma-related distress, especially during major life transitions. I understand how these intense feelings can limit one’s sense of self, disrupt relationships, and interfere with decision-making and overall quality of life

Personality Disorders

I have extensive experience supporting individuals living with personality disorders, including Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Avoidant, Dependent, and other Cluster B and C diagnoses. I understand the unique challenges that can accompany these diagnoses—such as difficulties with emotion regulation, identity, relationships, and self-worth—and I approach this work with deep compassion, clinical skill, and a nonjudgmental stance. Above all, I believe that meaningful change is possible—and that healing begins with being seen, heard, and understood.

Substance Use Disorders
As a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), I specialize in working with individuals struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns. I understand that substance use often serves as a coping mechanism for deeper emotional pain, trauma, or unmet needs
